Hey all! On Tuesday I had the chance to go to see one of my favourite bands called Imaginary Cities! They are from Manitoba and are oh so delightful! I saw them last year in Lethbridge at The Slice, when they played with Pepper Rabbit and Hey Ocean, and it was love at first listen! The CD, Temporary Resident has been at the ready ever since! This time I got to see them at Calgary’s the Republik, one of my very favourite venues for a concert!
The openers were Federal Lights and Rah – Rah, but I was filled with excitement to hear the lovely voices of Imaginary Cities. They are the kind of band that when they sing, you can actually feel the emotions they put into developing the song and the presence just rings through your body. You actually believe the lead singer is feeling love or heartbreak as she sings.
This was the first time I dared to bring my camera to a concert and try and snap a few pics. I was so very exited and I feel like I got a few great one! You can see some of the images below! I am so excited with how they have turned out!
Well, I hope you enjoyed my post! I encourage you to go and check out this wonderful Canadian band and I hope you love them as much as I do!
Today I am writing about the awesome opportunity that I had on Friday June 22, 2012. I had the great pleasure of being the photographer for the Minhas Micro Brewery of Calgary’s Grand Opening Event! Now, some of you might know that I got to photograph the Minhas family at their Baby shower a few weeks back and I can’t tell you enough what an amazing group of people they are!
The event was bustelling with excitement, chatter, and anticipation as people flooded in with hopes of test the Minhas families newest craft beers and local fresh pizzas, fries and onion rings ( all cooked with beer and ingredients brought from within 100km). The food was delightful and the company was grand. Everyone was in for a treat. So here are a few shots from the great event! Hopefully one day you will get a chance to come for a visit!
So here goes, again! This past year has been a whirl wind for me. With finishing up my BSW starting my business, planning a wedding, moving cities and the list goes on. I have had a hard time getting back to the basics of why I love photography. On Friday of last week ( the 15th) I realized it had been absolutely ages since I had stopped to take pictures for my self – you know sunsets, creatives, and all the fun stuff that people don’ pay me for. I couldn’t believe it! I was shocked that it had been over 9 months since I had taken a random pit stop on the high way or pulled in to some dodgy alleyway.
Well, being me I found myself in a farmers field as I was making this realization and I stooped to take a few photos just as the sun was beginning to set. It was so fabulous! The best thing I have done for myself in a long time. It lead to a whole series of great inspiration and wonderful ideas for future shoots and I found myself in love with my camera all over again. It was such a great feeling. I spent the whole weekend snapping pictures and loving life!
I guess my less was to remember to appreciate the small things and do this for me. I need to continue to do this because I love this, not because someone pays me to do it. So, like the title – back to basics!
ey, it’s me again. Shocked? Well, you shouldn’t be since I am the writer lol. Anywho, this post is all about the fabulous wedding i had the opportunity to photography yesterday (June 9, 2012)
Jessica and Jason are an amazing young couple! The wedding took place at a Douglasdale golf course and the scenery was just stunning! The hall was decked in lovely green and purple decorations and although we had a time war with the impeding rain, the photos will surely turn out great! We headed up to Rotary Park for wedding party shots and of course weddings are always a long day, so naturally the wedding party was hungry, so we decided to make a pit stop in at Peter’s Drive In and grab a milkshake and a few photo since it is a landmark! They turned out awesome and the crowd honked and cheered for the newlyweds!
I was lucky enough to do Jessica and Jason’s engagement photos a few months back, so it is always nice to see both days and create some similarities in the photos. Everyone was so nice and super easy going, which made for a wonderful day. Although we did see some rain and hail the broody sky made for a nice back drop over the cityscape. All in all, an excellent day!
This morning I did some boudoir shoots, so I am look forward to working through those and keeping you all updated on the events of the day!
So, without further delays here are a few sample shots from yesterday’s lovely wedding!
Hello again! I have not been feeling well this past week, quite sick in fact, however it has given me time to work on some editing, start my blog, and learn a few cool things in between my persistent coughing and uncontrollable slumber. I have managed to get all caught up on my editing, and even work on reediting some old photos.
In the past week I have had the honour of meeting some very amazing photographers from around the world in a Facebook group called “Rock My Edits – photographers group”. These people have been so amazing and encouraging and I have learnt SOOO much!
So needless to say, my sick days have also been helpful days! Although I am not a full time photographer, I do love learning about the world as much as I can. Knowledge is power and in order to succeed I need to learn, practice and grow!
Today I spent a bit of time prepping for the big wedding I am photographing tomorrow. Being that this is Alberta, our weather can be a bit unpredictable, so I find myself in a rush looking for some back up venues as we are due to have a major downpour tomorrow. Lucky I have some great people to bounce ideas off of and I think it will all pan out!
Anywho, here are a few shots I snapped of my beautiful cats this afternoon as I prepped and slept. These little guys are adorable and I love them to bits. 🙂
Hello again, it’s me your host – Stephanie. Today I am writing about the wonderful baby shower I photographed last Sunday. It was fabulous and our guest of honour, Manjit was such an incredible hostess with such great style! The house and yard were immaculate, which made it easy to snap some wonderful candid photos of all the guest. However, I have to say the little ones of the party stole my heart! The weather was great for a party and the sky was beautiful! There was tons of food, fun, and games! What a great way to spend a Sunday! Here are a few shot I nabbed during the event!
In other news, I have an awesome weekend ahead of me! I am doing a wedding for the lovely Jason and Jessica on Saturday and then a fabulous Boudoir marathon on Sunday! Photos to come, I promise!
Well, here I am – finally writing a blog. If you didn’t know already, I am Stephanie, your gracious host of the masterpiece. I am the owner and operator of Creative Button Photography and I began Creative Button on April 18, 2011. Photography was not really a part of my plan other than using it as my precious ‘self-care’ time. Professionally, I am a Social Worker and I love my job, but sometimes I need a peaceful place to go after a long day of work. I bought a camera after carrying a point and shoot around with me EVERYWHERE! I started taking photos as often as I could and the big jump was my trip to Costa Rica in February 2011. When I came home people started asking if they could use my photos as screen savers and then people asked to buy prints and then it evolved into people asking me to take photos for them so naturally, In super speed time I decided that Creative Button was now a major faucet of my life. I love it. I love photography. I love seeing things through a lens and I love finding the beauty in the simplest of things.
So, lets fast track to present day, shall we? Ok, here we are. June 5, 2012. I recently began wedding season and it is a steady start. I haven’t advertised much, so getting the word out is slow, but my previous clients have been so amazing in helping me spread the word. I recently invested in Lightroom 4 and have found it to be SOOOOO amazing! I am so glad I finally went for it. Photoshop is a little over whelming for me and I am hoping to take a class sometime soon. Ohh did I tell you, I am taking my first photography class starting June 28! I am so excited, it is a lighting class, which I think will help my work a lot.
On Sunday, the 3rd, I had the pleasure of photographing a Baby shower (of course the individual blog and photos will be coming soon). Other than that I have been practicing with presets and processing tools and working on reediting some of my old photos, so with that said, here are a few for you to feast your lovely eyes on! Please feel free to comment and share!
