Shoot, edit, delete, reshoot, edit, FINISHED!

Yep, you guessed! My past week has been filled with photos, accidentally deleting 11,000 photos, trying to recover them, reshooting, reediting, and finally finishing up!

My dear friends Scott and Elizabeth asked me to shoot their engagement photos, and I was SO beyond excited! I wanted to give them the best photos ever! I got finished editing them and was making space on my hard drive while backing up and accidentally deleted EVERYTHING! I lost 3 sessions, 2 of which I had to reshoot including Scott and Elizabeth’s. Good thing everyone understood and we made plans to fit another session into our busy schedule. I reshoot on Sunday and I wasn’t sure I loved the second session as much as the first because I really loved the first, but after digging my heels into the workflow  I really think the second set turned out better! Maybe it happened for a reason, maybe not, but these photos are pure love! Of course there are some that I can’t get back and am desperately devastated about, but for the most part I really am happy with the second session! Well, here have a look for yourself and tell me what you think!

Photo-love.

This week was filled with babies for me! Last Saturday I shot a birthday party for 4 adorable little tykes turning 1 (checkout http://www.facebook.com/CreativeButtonPhotography for images) and then I did a family session with a new mom and dad and their new baby, along with grandma, grandpa, and auntie  I tell you, I am so lucky to get to capture these precious, beautiful and amazing moments! I think last weekend produced some of my favourite images EVER! The families were all so amazing and so great to work with! Everyone was just completely on board with getting great end results, which always makes my job easier! The love I felt this weekend for family just spoke loud and clear about all of these people. It made me think about one day having a family of my  own and how that might change my life and fill it with more joy than I have yet to know! Anyway, here they are! For more images check out my facebook page! I must admit, I finally feel like I am hitting my stride and finding my style and it feel GREAT!Image

I hope you loved these photos!

Thanks,

Stephanie

Family fun times!

It is 12:26 am and here I find myself catching up on a much needed blog post. I am in the midst of returning to school for second last semester of my BSW and find myself wishing i knew I loved photography a long time ago, alas, Social Work is still a love of mine, and I am going to get that dang piece of paper if it kills me! I paid a lot of money for it!

Anyway, back to photos. I have found myself getting steadily busier and about to go into the busiest month I have ever had! YAY ME! It seems that all of my sessions lately are family sessions (maybe the universe is trying to tell me something) anywho, since I have had several sessions since my lovely little sissy and all with my new D7000 I figure I may as well share a few shots from those events!

Ohhh on a side note, I indulged in buying a new 50mm F/1.8 lens as well as a Kelly Moore camera bag (2 sues) which I am patiently awaiting in the mail Eeeepppp! I am so very excited!!!!

Anyway, here are my family shots from a total of 4 sessions!

Lovely lil’ sis

So, while I was away honeymooning in Iceland I had the misfortune of having my new husband drop it and cause some serious damage to it. Sadly in combination of extensive use over the past 2 years and the drop I had to say good bye to my little D3100. Lucky for me it was on our last day and it lived long enough to see me on to the plane home, but with a jam packed shooting schedule on the horizon of our return, I couldn’t afford to be out my body and one lens. So…. I introduced the D7000 to my collection on Saturday. My first official shoot back was booked for the Monday so I convinced my little sister to do a session with me. Luckily she agreed. So, we went out to some hay bails on the side of the road near my house and we got crackin! LOVE THE NEW CAMERA!

my poor sister failed to mention her hay allergy and broke out in welts not long after we started. Needless to say it was the end of our short session but boy did we walk away with some stunners! I am so excited to share these images and they are so special to me. I feel like this is the start of a new chapter in my photography! So, here they are!

I hope you enjoy these!!

Lessons in lighting

That’s right folks, it is time for another instalment of this lovely blog brought to you by moi! Yesterday was the day I took my very first photography class! It was fabulous! It is run by the Canadian Photography Learning Institute and it is called Lighting: Principles and Practice. I think, that of all the things I can do to improve my work and as an artist and a photographer is to get a better understanding of the principles and practices of light – I mean light is basically the essence of photography, so here I find myself with a thirst to learn!

The first class was theory heavy, which I admit, I kind of enjoy. We did a few activities to help understand hard and soft light, shadows, and how to create softer light anywhere. We used t-shirts and sheets, and reflectors, and all sorts of fun stuff to achieve this sought after soft light every photographer craves. It was great, and it really showed me how a photograph can change in an instant. I mostly shot my tea cup from starbuck, but the principle remained the same regardless of the subject. I must say, I learnt a lot! I am so excited to go back next week!

As I was leaving the class I could see through the hills the start of an amazing sunset. You know me, so off I rushed to my favourite spot which is about 15 – 20 min away from the classes but only 2 min away from my house and I burst out of my car and ran across the highway to catch this epic scene (though I wasn’t in a good position to get the striking clouds on the other side). I took a few standard sunset shots, but I really tried to get creative here. I knelt down in the tall grass and the wheat fields and took shots of flowers with the sunset in the background and used some grainy textures with some higher ISO to make an antique look. I think the photos came out great! I am really happy with them. So I headed back to my car, a bundle of itching from the 24 mosquito bites I incurred and ended up home! I successfully created my first template with the help of RockMyEdits Photoshop templates and here I am now, blogging about this whole thing! So, with out further interruptions, here are some of my shot! And, not the boring ones of my starbucks container!ImageImageImageImageImage

Beer and Pizza? Yes Please!

Hey all!

Today I am writing about the awesome opportunity that I had on Friday June 22, 2012. I had the great pleasure of being the photographer for the Minhas Micro Brewery of  Calgary’s Grand Opening Event! Now, some of you might know that I got to photograph the Minhas family at their Baby shower a few weeks back and I can’t tell you enough what an amazing group of people they are!

The event was bustelling with excitement, chatter, and anticipation as people flooded in with hopes of test the Minhas families newest craft beers and local fresh pizzas, fries and onion rings ( all cooked with beer and ingredients brought from within 100km). The food was delightful and the company was grand. Everyone was in for a treat. So here are a few shots from the great event! Hopefully one day you will get a chance to come for a visit!

Have a lovely night!

To be 16 again | Calgary Event Photographer

Hello all, it is me again!

Ahh 16, what a tender age! Full of drama excitement, knowing everything, passion, bullying, and getting out of high school alive. I must admit, I AM SO GLAD I AM PAST THAT, like 10 years ago!!

On the up side, I had the pleasure of photographing Miss. Daniela’s sweet 16 party. What an amazing, kind, and genuine young lady! All of this was a big surprise to her and boy was she surprised when her parents had a limo, her best girlfriends, and a hall booked out for a party.

We went out for some fun group shots and then off to the hall for the dance! All of the young ladies were delightful and so sweet! I was so lucky to be surrounded by a family full of love and compassion@ Daniela’s grandparents even made the party all the way from Peru!

I was so lucky to get a chance to photograph a family with so much love to give, it kind of reminds me about what is really important in life. So, I am lucky to say that I had such a great chance to meet so many amazing people!

Here are a few fun pictures from the evening!
